CAS Results show


CAS(创造力、活动和服务)是IB核心课程之一,旨在学习学科知识之余,全面培养学生的创新能力、运动表现和服务意识。本学期CAS开设了摄影、创意表演、服装设计、瑜伽、长跑、足球、动物保护、环保、义卖等近二十个不同类别的社团。临近期末,也到了创意类社团“丰收”的日子,让我们来看看他们收获了哪些“果实”吧。

 

CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) is one of the core courses of IB. In addition to letting students gain subject knowledge, it aims to cultivate innovation, sports performance and service consciousness. CAS activities start at 3:30pm every afternoon in Suzhou Industrial Park Foreign Language School and are anticipated by all IB students. After a day of intense studying, students can join in activities based on their interests and they get to mingle with students from different classes. This semester, SIPFLS has offered nearly 20 different types of activities that students can take part in, including photography, creative performance, costume design, yoga, long-distance running, football, animal caring, environmental protection, and charity sales. Now that we have come to the end of a semester, let us celebrate their achievements!

 

学期末摄影社策划并举办了一次影展,从近200幅照片中精心挑选出50幅,再按照8个不同主题将它们组织起来,每个作品的内涵都得到了深化与拓展。此次影展激发了社员的摄影乐趣,也鼓励大家多关注身边的美丽风景,发现平凡生活的动人之处。

 

At the end of the semester, the photography club planned and put on a photo exhibition, carefully selecting 50 out of 200 photos, and organizing them according to 8 different themes. The connotation of each work was explored in a short analytical description. The photography exhibition stimulated the students' interest in photography and also allowed the audience to pay more attention to the beautiful scenery around them, suggesting that anyone can be a photographer.

创意表演社团也“碰撞”出别样的火花,前半学期,两位成员在世界读书日活动中呈现了精彩的表演。后半学期,大家又各自进行独立创作,有的自编自导自演,将柳宗元散文《童区寄传》改编成一则广播剧;有的则录制了一期《夜幕 · 听书》广播节目—《相恋80年的故事》。

 

Though slim in numbers, the creative performance club had two members give a wonderful performance during the World Book Day activity in the first half of the semester. They learnt a lot from the drama performance. In the second half of the semester, they embarked on independent projects. Some of them wrote, directed or acted. Some adapted Liu Zongyuan's prose, "Tong Qu Ji Chuan" into a radio play. Others recorded a radio program called "Night-time Book Listening" -- a story of 80 years in love. The weekly CAS time provides a time and space for students to explore their creativity.

烹饪社团更是“花团锦簇”,异彩纷呈。同学们发挥奇思妙想,通力合作,呈现了一道道色香味俱全的美味佳肴。其中包括玲珑剔透的冰糖葫芦,香酥甜糯的抹茶牛扎,松软可口的红烧肥牛,鲜香诱人的黄油曲奇,入口即化的蔬菜饭团。从精心的选材到认真的烹制以及火候的掌握和美食的搭配,都是小组成员践行“创造力”的有力体现,也是烹饪社团建立的不变初心。

 

The cooking club is a playground of flavours. The students gave full play to their creative ideas and worked together to present a variety of delicious dishes. Among them are the exquisite ice-sugar gourd, the crisp and sweet matcha beef, the soft and delicious stewed beef, the melt-in-your-mouth butter cookies, and the savoury vegetable rice ball. The careful selection of materials, the mastery of heat and the matching of ingredients are a powerful embodiment of the team members' creativity. This has been and always will be what the cooking club strives to achieve.

 

在舞蹈社团,你常常可以看到有经验的成员耐心地带领着一脸认真又略显着急的新手,一遍又一遍的练习某个舞蹈动作。这学期的舞蹈成员水平不一,一开始排舞的时候遇到了很多困难,舞蹈之余他们相互商量,讨论动作队形的改变和舞蹈的编排,尝试去磨合。最终在世界读书日活动中奉献了精彩的舞蹈表演。此外他们还排练了舞蹈《uh-oh》和歌曲《陪你度过漫长岁月》。

 

During dance club sessions, you can often see experienced members patiently leading the earnest but slightly anxious novices in executing dance movements. The dance members this semester have different strengths and skills. At the beginning, they encountered many difficulties when learning line dancing. Hence, they took time outside of official practice sessions to discuss movement formation and choreography. Finally, they were able to give a wonderful dance performance during the World Book Day activity. In addition, they rehearsed the dance "Uh-oh" and the song "Through the Long Years with You."

 

今年新成立的服装设计社团同样也是创意无限。学期初,学生利用一针、一线、一拉链缝制出了一只只时尚的零钱包。

 

This year's newly established fashion design community is also full of students who have potential. At the beginning of the semester, students hand-sewed fashionable wallets.

After getting familiar with the basics of sewing, students tried to design various styles of clothes. Let’s have the designers explain their inspiration:

 

“我们的灵感来源于知名服装系列——盖娅传说,盖娅传说将中国元素和各类服装版型相互融合,彰显中国古典特色的同时不失时尚感。我们的设计以藏青色为主并加入些许渐变元素,然后将这些元素与裙子结合。制作的过程“甜蜜而艰辛”,缝纫技术的不足导致我们的作品一开始松松垮垮,但经过每节课经验的积累,我们学会了合理和高效使用各种,使效率大大提高,最终呈现出我们最满意的作品。 ”——Y10 Group (柴源Louise,吴宇萱Linda,江馨语Sherry,郁欣宜 Vickey)

 

"We were inspired by the famous clothing collection, ‘The Legend of Gaia’. It combines Chinese elements with various other clothing styles to evoke classical Chinese elements while maintaining aesthetics. Our design focuses on the use of navy blue with some gradient shades which we combined with the design of the dress. We   ran into some minor obstacles during the production process. Our lack of experience in sewing initially caused our works to be structurally loose. However, with practice and experience, we learned to use different kinds of materials which greatly improved the workmanship and quality of work and we were finally able to present a product we were most satisfied with. 这些创意作品的灵感有的来自于生活,有的是从小就坚持的兴趣爱好,有的则是来自于课堂。这一个个创意作品不是一蹴而就完成的,每一个作品的背后,都是学生一次又一次的反思与修改,都是团队成员之间一次又一次的共同讨论与合作的成果,是学生课堂与生活的延伸,更是个人能力的修炼场。正是“奇思结硕果,妙想绽繁花”。创意CAS路漫漫其修远,打点行装,再出发!

 

Some of these creative works are inspired by life, some by hobbies that students have had since childhood. These creative works were not accomplished overnight. Behind each piece of work lies a student’s relentless introspection and drive to achieve perfection. It is also due to cooperation with each other that has made it possible for students to create these works of art. CAS is a platform for individuals to learn about themselves and work together as a team; CAS is also an extension of students' classroom life, allowing them to discover the interesting things in life and to explore them in a way that brings out the best in every student.


Creativity, activity, service (CAS) is an experiential learning programme that involves IB students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies.

The most meaningful CAS experience comes from spending time with others to build relationships and develop the self-worth of both the server and served. In Year 10, students have begun to immerse themselves in different self-initiated programmes so as to prepare themselves for the CAS spirit in their IB years. Here are some ongoing programmes:
