The 4th IB/AP International High School Art Exhibition
Walking into the History Museum of Suzhou Industrial Park Foreign Language School, we can feel the charm of art: the bright touch, the rigid and soft colors, and the well-defined works.
On 2nd April, 2021, the IB department of Suzhou Industrial Park Foreign Language School (SIPFLS) held the 4th Visual Art Exhibition in the History Museum of the school. For Visual Arts students from Year 12, Coco, Iris and Rex, this was the time for them to share and express their two-year fantasy and wonderful art journey. Sabrina, IBAP Art Design student, also showed her unique ideas in this exhibition.
The students completed this exhibition after two to three years of exploration and research. Visual Arts include creations that use certain materials to create intuitive artistic images, including film and television, painting, sculpture, architectural art, practical decorative art, and many other different forms, with various modeling techniques. This subject also encourages students to explore the connection between Art and other subjects to improve their creativity and thinking skills. Through works, students can express their unique observation and understanding of life, society, and life by reflecting different cognitions of culture, social relations, gender, and times.
Two days before the exhibition, teachers and students burned the midnight oil to arrange the exhibition area intensively. The layout of each exhibition area and work is planned and designed by the students themselves. They hope to guide the audience to appreciate the work by distinguishing different artistic themes. In this exhibition, you could see various and creative works of art, such as oil paintings, installation arts, board paintings, animations and prints, etc.

Here are some thoughts about art course from the students:
I came to SIPFLS in 2018. As a transfer student who just entered high school, I am not good at socializing, and used to refuse to integrate into the class. However, drawing is my favorite thing. When I first entered the VA class, I always shut myself up in a room. But thanks to the good artistic atmosphere and warm environment of the VA classroom, the teachers are warm and responsible to the students. In addition to the rigorous and serious professional teaching, the teachers’ cordial enlightenment and care have changed my introverted personality. Here, I would love to express my thanks to the lovely and responsible teacher, Ms. Vicky! My classmates are also very passionate about Arts and friendship. I have made good friends here. I became a very energetic person, which I did not expect when I just entered high school. I began to accept myself and the world, and I became good at thinking. These changes are also reflected in my artistic creations. Two years of VA study has brought me not only the improvement of painting skills, but also the bond with classmates and teachers. I felt love here and also grew, transformed and bloomed!

Visual Art is a very inclusive subject. I can present different elements to people in different forms and media. My imagination can be used, and I enjoyed it.

During the time I studied in VA, I transformed from being a person who didn't know how to paint to being a person who is able to use different materials to create arts. The credit to this change goes to my two VA teachers.
In the first year of high school, Ms. Cherry taught me the basic skills of painting. That was my first time using watercolor and prints, and also was the beginning of my portfolio production.
In the second year of high school, I met Ms. Vicky, the second noble person in my life who helped me make great progress in painting and thinking. The collection of works has unprecedented high quality. The proficient use of acrylic and Photoshop has also brought a lot to my work. I think we are more like friends than teachers and students.
My happiest day in IB department was the time I spent discussing ideas and revising paintings with her. The two teachers have been very patient in teaching painting knowledge. They are the teachers who have helped me the most in art. I owe my work and progress to them.
At the same time, I met close friends in this VA classroom, and we would draw and chat together. When I came to this school, the luckiest thing for me was that I chose VA and met my teachers and friends.

When I first started to know about Art and Design, I felt that art was nothing more than painting, but later I slowly discovered that it requires keen thinking and skilled techniques. At the beginning, I didn't have very good drawing skills, and I often emotionally broke down. But my teacher put a lot of energy into me, communicated ideas with me, taught me to use various media, so I gradually became confident, which helped me open the door to the art world, and I became friends with the teacher. Studying art is the luckiest thing that happened to me after I came to high school. When I think about graduation, I still feel a little bit sad.

Art students spent countless days and nights in exchange for their current achievements! They are full of enthusiasm for Art. These works are the display of their learning achievements in the IB Visual Art course and AP Art and Design course, and the best sum and reward of the time and energy devoted to their high school period! They use paper to interpret life and use their brilliant pen to describe their ideas. They use actions to tell us that Art seems to be far away from us, but in fact it is everywhere!
